Why do you believe this tree should be selected as the winner in this category?
This Spruce was part of the Dorchester nursery stock planting, from the 1860's forward along the roads and highways specifically Pipeline Road now Springbank Drive and lining Commissioners Road all to the Village of Westminster now Byron.
Many of these fine specimens along main corridors have fallen due to progress, many still remain in and through out the parks. This particular tree displays the widest girth and most consistent height than any other spruce in the both Reservoir and Springbank Parks.
I believe that the soft unusually pure water, the aeration and minerals emanating from the Springbank Hill required for such growth also prevented calcification of the roots that normally inhibits growth.
The water supply and pump house water works that saved London from water born illness that plagued the city from 1844 until 1877-78 and created our largest and oldest riverside park and unprecedented population growth not seen prior, James Eagan Photographer and City Council Member planted this fine spruce tree now a "flag staff" appropriately placed in-situ by the Father of Victoria Park and Springbank Parks has provided this Tree the perfect spot to grow taller stronger wider than any of its kin.
Yours truly,
Milyn Hall
