Why do you believe this tree should be selected as the winner in this category?

Emma and I were looking for trees to submit to The Amazing Tree Quest and saw a beautiful and stark dead tree on the way to a soccer game. That got us thinking more about dead trees. Of course now that we were thinking of them we started seeing lots of them. Not sure what species this is as it doesn't have any leaves etc. Even in death some of these trees provide a beautiful contrast to the lush environment. Emma and I researched the value of dead trees in the ecosystem and were happy to find they provide life to birds, insects, amphibians, fungi, small mammals and when they fall and rot can become the "nurse" logs for new trees. This particular one has the tree behind it leaning on it and growing around.
