Why do you believe this tree should be selected as the winner in this category?
This tree was struck by lightning several years ago, breaking the top off the tree at a height of about 3 meters. The strike started the tree on fire, completely burning the core down to ground level and leaving two openings into the trunk. Despite this trauma, there was enough of the trunk left intact that this tree continues to nourish the one remaining branch. So now the tree stands like a one-armed sentry, facing the west and guarding the Coves pond.

Awe inspiring tree! Thanks for posting!
Actually, this tree has a long history. It was hollowed many years before the lightning strike that reduced it. Vandals used to set fires in the base of the trunk - I know because I put one out 4 years ago!
What an amazing tree!!! Thank you for sharing, can't wait to go see it myself.
