Morning Passage in the Fall

I am sitting at my desk, looking out the window --
Trees stand reaching up towards the sky
in vivid flames,
one in particular --
a mosaic of leaves, red, yellow and gold,
the earth layered with
signs of our passage
while mists from the morning air
drift
like ghosts
come once more for a
visitation.
