Contest Rules

Amazing Tree   QuestEligibility

  1.  In order to be nominated, a tree must fit the following characteristics:
    1. Must be a woody perennial plant having a single stem generally with few or no branches on its lower part.
    2. Must be alive (no metal, carved, or sculptural trees). Exception: dead trees can be nominated in the “Spookiest” category.
    3. Must be planted outdoors (no indoor plants/trees).
    4. Must be planted within the municipal boundaries of the London, Ontario.
  2. Contestants can be from anywhere in the world.
  3. Trees that won first or second place in 2009 may be nominated in 2010, but will not be eligible to win.
  4. Contestants must indicate whether their nominated tree is on public or private land. If the tree is on private property, contestants must receive permission from the private property owner to showcase the tree on their property and to post content related to that tree. The owner of the tree must also acknowledge that once a story is posted on ReForest London’s site, public interest may result in visitors wanting to see the tree.

Submitting Entries

  1. All nominations must be completed online at www.reforestlondon.ca  by July 31, 2010. Access to the internet is available at all London Public Libraries. If the contestant has absolutely no access to the internet, entries may be received by calling 519-936-9548. ReForest London will make every effort to post phoned-in entries correctly, but cannot be held responsible for typing errors, missing details or invalid information related to the tree.
  2. All required fields must be completed in order for a nomination to be valid.
  3. Registered users may vote or comment on other nominated trees, in addition to posting their own nominations.
  4. Upon successful submission of a nomination to the ReForest London web site, the contestant acknowledges that ReForest London can use this content without remuneration for other promotional activities and events, including marketing materials, books, videos, movies and other content that might result from this contest. Art submitted by professional artists is exempt from this rule.
  5. While there are no limits on the number of nominations a user may submit, each entry must be deemed to be unique, and a tree can only be nominated in one category. Those entries that are not unique may be deleted or withheld by site administrators.
  6. If more than one person nominates a tree in a given category and that tree wins, the first person to nominate the tree online shall win the prize.
  7. A tree may not win in more than one category. Trees that were nominated in 2009 but did not win may be nominated again this year.

Judging and Prizes

  1. Prize Package - There will be one prize package with a value of $175-200 given to one entrant drawn at random after the close of the contest. The prize package will include two tickets to The Grand Theatre, and a gift certificate for Garlics restaurant. The tickets for The Grand Theatre may be used for any performance, excluding Friday and Saturday evenings from October 19 to 31 2010, and must be redeemed in person at The Grand Theatre box office.
  2. Artwork - Professional artists residing in the city of London are invited to submit images for the Tree Inspired Art Category. One work will be selected via a juried process to be purchased by the London Arts Council for an amount up to $500. The selected piece will be on display at the Amazing Tree Quest Celebrate the Trees event, and will be shown in the London Arts Council office for the launch of Culture Days, September 24- 26th, 2010.
  3. There will be first and second place winners chosen by the judges in each of eight categories. An additional prize will be awarded to the tree that receive the most votes online, the People's Choice Award. These prizes will have no cash value.
  4. The odds of winning are based on the number of contestants.
  5. Judges will select finalists based on the stories accompany the trees and the photographs of the tree. Final winners will be selected by judges who will make an on-site evaluation of tree. The exception to this is the People’s Choice award, which will be awarded to the tree with the most online votes.
  6. Trees that are selected as finalists will be judged in person by a judging committee. All owners of tree finalists on private property must consent to the judging committee to enter their property to examine the tree.
  7. Members of the Amazing Tree Quest Committee, ReForest London Board and staff, and their families may submit entries, but are not eligible to win.

Editing and Disqualification

  1. The administrators of the ReForest London web site reserve the right to edit, remove, delete or modify any content that has been added to the web site, including entries, pictures, comments and users.  Administrators or Executive Committee members are not liable for these changes.
  2. Contestants will be disqualified if they fail to abide by any of these terms and conditions.
