If your tree is selected as a finalist for the Largest Tree Trunk Circumference category, it will be measured by an arborist using a professional tree measuring tool. However, you can estimate the tree's circumference using the following method.
Please do not just guess at the tree's circumference. Carefully follow the instructions below.
- Measure 1.35 meters (4.5 feet) from the base of the tree (where the tree comes out of the ground).
- Wrap a tape measure or string around the tree tightly and evenly at 1.35 metres.
- Record this length.
Note: If the tree forks before 1.35 meters, measure the smallest circumference between 1.35 metres and the ground below the lowest fork.
