Dan previously worked for ReForest London back in 2014 and is thrilled to return as the Planting Programs Manager in 2021. In this role, he oversees the tree planting programs in parks, schoolyards and other areas throughout the City of London.
Dan completed his Master of Forest Conservation from the University of Toronto in 2012 and his Bachelor of Environmental Studies with honours in geography and a minor in history at the University of Waterloo. He has also obtained a post-graduate certificate in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College Canada. Since finishing school, Dan has gained 10 years of experience in the fields of forestry and arboriculture. Having also worked in both the private and public sectors, he is excited to be given the opportunity to return to the non-profit world and work with the local community to conserve and restore our natural spaces.
Dan was drawn to ReForest London because he saw an opportunity to work alongside some really passionate people who share the same interests in trees and environmental conservation. Being a grassroots organization, ReForest London demonstrates that when people with a curiosity or understanding of nature come together, incredible things can happen!
Dan believes the best way to address environmental issues in London is by planting trees. The environmental, social, and economic benefits of trees are endless. The City of London has a target to reach 32% canopy cover city-wide by 2065, and by continuing to push reforestation efforts forward, he is hopeful that London can reach that goal and realize the full potential of a vibrant and healthy urban forest. He also believes that education and public outreach are critical components in achieving this goal – the more Londoners gain an interest and passion in trees and urban forestry, the greater the chances of success!
With his interest in forest ecology, you will often find him wandering the woods with field guides in hand. Otherwise, you will find him outside hiking, canoeing, camping or gardening.
His favourite tree is the Tulip tree
