Talbot Wetlands Planting

Project type: Park Naturalization
Year: 2020
Season: Fall

On Saturday, October 17th, the sun was shining as we planted 125 trees and shrubs at Talbot Wetlands. In 2019, we planted over 300 woody plants in the area, and we are so happy to have returned and further enhanced the site in 2020!

The main focus of this year’s planting was to enhance shade by adding shade trees along the footpaths for local residents. While we were there, we saw dozens of Londoners our using the walkways, so we are hopeful that this shade will enhance their experience. The trees will also add to the wildlife habitat of the many animals that call this wetland home and help to improve the water quality in the area. Many people walk, bike and play in the area, and we hope they get great enjoyment from the trees. We had many conversations with the residents who all seemed very excited to have more trees here.

The success of this event would not have been possible without the help of our volunteers, which included a large group of staff from KPMG. We are so grateful for the continued support of the community!

A huge thank you to KPMGCity of LondonCarolinian Canada and Deshkan Ziibi Conservation Impact Bond for funding this planting event. Revisiting sites and watching the forests we plant grow year after year reminds us of the importance of our work!
