Thompson Ravine Planting – October 18th, 24th, and 29th, 2020

Thompson Ravine was a large site, with a whopping 419 native trees and shrubs to be planted. It took ReForest London four separate events over the course of three days and 53 individual volunteers to complete this huge planting. The goal of this planting was not only to naturalize the walking trails and increase habitat, but to also add fruit trees to the area.  There is a lovely community garden at Thompson Ravine, and we were lucky enough to be able to plant a variety of fruit trees, such as apple, plum, cherry, and serviceberries, to help add to the garden and benefit its users. We hope that the community continues to care for these trees and reap the benefits in the years to come.

After planting all of the trees, we returned with a few of our Tree Specialists (trained volunteers) to apply a deer repellent to every tree to prevent them from getting nibbled on over the winter months. This was very important at Thompson Ravine, as its proximity to the river means that there are a lot of wildlife that could potentially harm the trees.

As always, we are ever so grateful to the City of London for funding this event. Also, a huge thank you goes out to all of our volunteers who came out and ensured the plantings were a success!
