Native tree and shrub seed donations
The Community Tree Nursery is collecting native tree seeds for our growing programs! You can support us by:
- Identifying if you have the species we’re looking for.
- Getting permission to collect if you are not the landowner.
- Collecting and coordinating drop-off at our offices at 944 Western Counties Rd.
Please email Julianna at [email protected] to coordinate drop-off of your donation, or to ensure you’re collecting the correct species. If you’re unsure if you have the correct species, please attach a photo so we can identify the plant you’re working with.
Some species we are looking for:
- Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus serica)
- American Basswood (Tilia americana)
- American Hazelnut (Corylus americana)
- Sassafras (Sassafras albidum)
- Bladdernut (Staphylea trifolia)
We will post on social media and update our Events page as these species’ seeds become ready for collection. Seeds collected too early or too late, or stored improperly, will not germinate and grow into trees or shrubs.
