Enterprise Stormwater Management Area Planting II

Project type: Park Naturalization
Year: 2016
Season: Fall

ReForest London staff Kaitlin and Amanda were joined by 65 volunteers from Home Hardware, Tree Canada and St. Andre Bessette Catholic School. This event was very successful, with 221 trees being planted at a stormwater management area in London. These trees will provide habitat for wildlife, control stormwater flows and filter pollution. We want to give a special shout out to Donald Craig for his excellent talk on the importance of trees, and to Ron Harris and Ivan Picott from Harris Home Hardware for organizing an event with us every year. Thank you to all our volunteers and guests for your hard work!

The Enterprise SWM planting this fall was inspiring, to say the least. Donald Craig from Tree Canada gave a speech about Ontario’s forests and the importance of increasing urban forest cover. The students worked hard for the whole 3 hour event, some of them not taking a break until their teacher told them they had to! We love events where the impact is so immediate, both on the landscape and in the mind of the students.

Planting in stormwater management areas will not only increase tree cover here in London, but also improve water quality in our streams and ponds. We are very grateful to have the support of partners like Home Hardware, Tree Canada and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. Thank you for making these events possible!
