Michael Kirkland

Mike’s interests in trees began as a youth. Even as a young boy he could identify the various species of trees that grew in the woods near his home in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.

The air in the woods was just more relaxing.

As an adult, he has been planting trees for the past 30 years, either on his own or through organized planting events such as those put on by ReForest London.

In his spare time he enjoyed hiking, camping and SCUBA diving, spending many weekends in the Bruce Peninsula, partly because it reminded him of Nova Scotia.

After retiring from a career in engineering and document management, Mike was looking for a volunteer opportunity that would combine his interests as an amateur forester with his experience gained in document management. A role on the Governance Committee working with their document management systems seemed to be the perfect combination.

His other interests include restoring and driving vintage and classic cars.

His current collection includes a Triumph GT6, a Mazda MX-5, 3 red maples, 1 sugar maple. 1 silver maple, 1 sycamore, 1 plane tree, 1 pin oak, 1 burr oak, a red bud and several spruce.
